Awake, open gaze – renewed radiance with an eyelid lift
Glances make a face truly interesting. Because in the eyes we read a person's emotions and character. An open gaze awakens our sympathy and invites communication. It is all the more disconcerting when the eyes cannot express what moves a person inwardly – because drooping upper lids or sagging tear troughs impair the expression – An eyelid lift can often help against a tired, listless or closed look. Sagging lids can also lead to a restriction of the visual field, which can be tiring and dangerous in the long run.
The reasons for eyelid laxity are diverse: Besides a hereditary predisposition, age-related or environmental factors often cause the eyelid skin and the eye muscle to lose tension.
An eyelid correction can help both women and men regain the open, radiant and younger appearance of their eyes that matches their character and increases their attractiveness.
Dr. Jethon at PraxisClinic Jadore – your experienced partner for all eyelid correction surgeries
Dr. Christoph Jethon, head of PraxisClinic Jadore, is your experienced plastic surgeon for all eyelid surgery procedures. He combines his many years of experience in correcting eyelids with the individual application of micro-surgical treatment concepts to restore a dynamic appearance to the eye area. He personally applies all his know‑how and his sense for naturally appearing proportions and aesthetic forms to give your face a fresh and appealing expression.
Eyelid and brow lift – options for a more awake look
An eyelid correction affects two areas of the eye region: the upper eyelid and the lower eyelid. Accordingly, the surgical methods used by Dr. Christoph Jethon to tighten the eyelid skin differ: He knows how to remove fat and tissue so delicately and yet so moderately, and to place sutures precisely in the eyelid fold, that the fine scars remain almost invisible.
For the treatment of tear troughs Dr. Jethon uses a technique that includes redistribution of the fatty tissue and fixation of the orbital muscle. This method aims to give the eyelid skin a fresher and smoother appearance. Dr. Jethon places great importance on achieving a result that looks as natural as possible and meets his patients' aesthetic expectations.
Upper eyelid correction
The upper eyelid skin often loses elasticity with age; as the tension decreases, the underlying fatty tissue or the eye muscle may be pushed forward more prominently. This movable part of the upper eyelid is then no longer visible – this is referred to as hooded eyelids. Consequences: A drooping upper eyelid can make the gaze not only look tired – it can also cause a lateral restriction of the visual field.
To correct a hooded eyelid, the excess upper eyelid skin is tightened. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia or twilight sedation. Dr. Christoph Jethon first marks the excess skin to be removed on the closed eye. To create a clear eyelid contour, excess muscle tissue and the fatty tissue located at the inner corner of the eye are also removed during the subsequent operation. The affected skin areas are then closed with fine sutures and protected with dressings.
Lower eyelid correction
The lower eyelid also loses elasticity over the course of life. Unlike the upper eyelid, the lower eyelid skin is less mobile and also significantly thinner. It covers the circular eye muscle. Behind it lies a thin membrane and fatty tissue. This membrane loses its tension over time. The result is that the fat tissue behind it protrudes more and thus becomes visible – in common parlance this appearance is called a tear trough.
In lower eyelid tightening, the protruding fat tissue is usually not removed by Dr. Christoph Jethon, but modelled by redirecting it downward. During the operation he also removes lax muscle tissue and part of the lower eyelid skin.
Dr. Jethon usually performs the lower eyelid correction under local anesthesia. Upon request, a light twilight sedation is also possible.
Risks and possible aftereffects following an eyelid lift
With an experienced physician like Dr. Christoph Jethon, eyelid correction carries hardly any health risks. The procedure itself naturally places some strain on your eyes. Therefore they may water or feel dry directly after the operation. Both are, however, quickly temporary accompanying phenomena. In individual cases, conjunctival swelling may also occur, as well as small bruises, which also subside quickly. The scars themselves heal over the course of a few weeks, forming an almost invisible line that, due to its position in the eyelid fold, is also not noticeable.

How to best prepare yourself for your eyelid correction
To best support the healing process of your upcoming eyelid correction surgery, you can do a lot yourself. Ideally you should try to follow the recommendations below in advance:
Medication intake
About 2 weeks before the scheduled operation at PraxisClinic Jadore, avoid, if possible, taking medications that increase bleeding tendency – this includes, for example, aspirin and other products that contain acetylsalicylic acid.
Do not smoke
Smoking is known to increase the risk of circulatory disorders and also delays wound healing; as a result, the healing process can be impaired or slowed even with minor operations. For this reason, you should stop smoking at the latest 2 weeks before your operation, if possible completely, or at least significantly reduce it.
Further preparation
Before the operation you should not wear makeup or eyeshadow so that the eyelid skin is neutral and free of foreign substances. For the period immediately after the operation, it is best to have cooling elements such as elastic gel packs ready to reduce possible swelling. Bring sunglasses to protect your particularly sensitive eyes from strong light after the operation and to conceal the dressings.
Checklist for preparation:
- Avoid blood-thinning medications
- Reduce or pause tobacco consumption
- No makeup before the operation
- Have gel packs for cooling and sunglasses ready
How does the eyelid correction operation proceed at PraxisClinic Jadore?
Before the procedure, Dr. Christoph Jethon precisely marks the required incision lines on your eyelids. You will then receive a local anesthetic or be placed in twilight sedation so that you remain completely relaxed during the surgical procedure.
Dr. Christoph Jethon will perform this procedure personally and make only as many incisions as are necessary for the correction. He removes excess, lax skin as well as muscle and fatty tissue to tighten the lids and give your eyes the desired appearance.
He places and sutures the incisions so that the fine surgical scars will later be barely visible. As protection you will receive small, discreet dressings. The entire operation lasts about one hour.
Since your ability to drive may be impaired as an aftereffect of the anesthesia, we will gladly call a taxi for you afterwards.
Checklist for the operation:
- Outpatient stay at PraxisClinic Jadore
- Local anesthesia, optional twilight sedation
- Duration of surgery: 1 hour
What should I pay attention to after the eyelid correction?
As a consequence of an eyelid correction, slight pain at the scars as well as swelling and bruising may occur, but these are harmless and disappear after a few weeks. It is advisable to wear sunglasses in the following days. This not only relieves the eyes and their muscles but above all also protects the scars from UV radiation, which can make them more visible. A pair of sunglasses also conceals the dressings.
In the next 10 days you should keep your head as upright as possible and avoid head-down movements. You can resume normal, non-strenuous work activities as early as the next day.
Checklist for the period after the operation:
- Avoid direct sunlight, wear sunglasses
- Avoid head-down movements
- Try to sleep on your back
Healing process of the eyelid lift and aftercare
A few days after the eyelid correction, Dr. Christoph Jethon performs a follow-up examination, and about 1 week later he removes the sutures. Then you are again fully "socially acceptable" and can also test the new effect of your eyes. The fine scars in the eyelid fold will become almost invisible over time.
Checklist for aftercare:
- Removal of sutures after 1 week
- Scars will be hardly noticeable over time
Important note
Direct sun exposure should be avoided for four to six months after the operation. Scar massage will make the fine scars quickly soft and invisible.
Expected result
- Fresh, more awake facial expression
- Rejuvenated eye area
- Eyes can be made up more easily again
Further corrections in connection with an eyelid lift
In addition to eyelid correction, Dr. Christoph Jethon at PraxisClinic Jadore also offers wrinkle injections with hyaluronic acid or a muscle relaxant as well as facelift, brow lift etc.
