Why the neck often reveals our age more than the face itself
The external aging of our body is shown most mercilessly on the face. But the tissue of the neck — also usually uncovered and plainly visible to everyone — changes with the years as well: the skin, the subcutaneous tissue, muscles and tendons lose their smooth, youthful dynamism and the clear transition from chin to neck becomes indistinct.
The once youthful swan neck now reveals our true age, sometimes as the so-called "turkey neck", where the neck is lax and an excess of skin — with or without subcutaneous fat — develops. Thanks to today's wide range of options in reputable modern aesthetic-plastic surgery, these signs of aging can often be improved using different methods, even if complete correction is not always possible; independently of a facelift, which depending on personal tissue characteristics and the surgeon's skill may include the neck area.
In a personal consultation Dr. Jethon analyzes the individual conditions in detail and, with his many years of experience, selects the most suitable surgical method. All details of the exact procedure are explained thoroughly and understandably. As a rule, Dr. Jethon performs a neck tightening on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia or twilight sedation.
An excess of fat in the neck is gently suctioned off through tiniest openings that later are almost invisible. If the skin is still elastic, it adapts to the new neck line on its own. Otherwise an additional operative tightening is necessary in which the excess skin is removed. With a special incision and suture technique under the chin, Dr. Jethon ensures inconspicuous scarring. If required, he simultaneously tightens lax neck musculature (platysma muscle). Alternatively, the incision for skin and muscle tightening can be placed behind the ear.
For band-like protruding neck folds, an injection treatment with a muscle-relaxing agent is also an option. Injected with great experience into the correct muscle strands, Dr. Jethon can make unsightly neck folds disappear for months.
There are many ways to achieve a slim, smooth neck, but only a few designated specialists who can highly professionally and routinely apply the most suitable method tailored to the individual patient. We are happy to demonstrate this.
