An upper arm lift gives your body new contours
Even a perfectly contoured body silhouette is not immune to changes over time, which often manifest as a loss of skin elasticity: youthful firmness disappears and age shows visible signs in the form of sagging skin. It is all the more disappointing when a diet removes unwanted bulges on the abdomen, or intense fitness training builds a strong triceps, yet the skin on the underside of the upper arms remains lax and visibly droops. The shoulder-baring elegant evening gown or the skimpy tank top then unfortunately stay in the wardrobe to spare yourself and others the unaesthetic sight of so-called "bat wings."

The skin on the upper arms is naturally thin, so weight loss or tissue aging is noticeable there by resulting in sagging. Liposuction is therefore often not the right method to restore a youthful firmness to the arms.
However, this excess tissue and skin can be sustainably reduced by an operative upper arm lift at PraxisClinic Jadore, so you can again enjoy shapely arms that are worth presenting in the spotlight.
Dr. Christoph Jethon fulfils your wish for newly contoured, firm upper arms with his experienced surgical hands, restoring an overall harmonious, athletic silhouette to your body. According to your individual preferences, Dr. Jethon removes excess tissue and skin in an operative procedure to remodel the arms and help you gain new self-confidence. Any remaining excess fat can simultaneously be removed by liposuction.

The surgical method for a successful upper arm lift
For an upper arm lift (brachioplasty), Dr. Christoph Jethon always tailors the required procedure to the individual anatomy; by using the least invasive approach possible he creates a coherent appearance that also harmonizes with the rest of the body.
Dr. Christoph Jethon keeps the number and length of incisions as small as possible. These run along the inner upper arm, from the armpit to above the elbow. To remove a larger amount of fat and skin, an additional transverse incision in the armpit may be necessary. In some cases, Dr. Jethon also performs a liposuction in addition to the upper arm lift to bring the silhouette of your upper arms into peak condition.
The result — and certainly the aim of admiring glances from others — is again attractive, firm-looking upper arms. Shortly after the upper arm lift you can enjoy your success, as the newly contoured line of the upper arms is already clearly visible, even if any swelling or bruising may still need to subside.
Risks and visible consequences of an upper arm lift
The incisions required to perform the operative upper arm lift typically cause mild pain in the area and increased sensitivity with movement and touch. They are also accompanied by tissue swelling and bruising, which are harmless in themselves. Numbness and tightness sensations may also occur; all these symptoms subside after a few days.
The scars resulting from the surgery are still palpable and visible in the first weeks afterwards but will continue to fade over time. When placing the necessary incisions, Dr. Christoph Jethon places great importance on making the scars as inconspicuous as possible, using the shortest incisions feasible depending on the amount of skin to be removed. The special technique Dr. Jethon uses for suturing also reduces scar size to a minimum.

Your personal pre-consultation with Dr. Christoph Jethon about your upper arm lift
If you intend to have the operative tightening of your upper arms at PraxisClinic Jadore, Dr. Christoph Jethon will first conduct a detailed consultation with you. He takes time to learn your personal ideas and wishes regarding your ideal appearance and to inform you whether and how these can be realized by an upper arm lift.
Dr. Jethon will discuss with you the best possible approach to achieve the agreed surgical result, as well as the resulting costs. Possible allergies to medications or care products and the anesthesia will also be addressed. If necessary due to your medical history, an additional anamnesis will clarify all possible risks of the procedure. Dr. Christoph Jethon will also explain what you can do yourself to optimally prepare for the planned procedure.
How to best prepare for the operative upper arm lift
You can actively support the healing process after an upper arm lift by observing the following recommendations preferably about 2 weeks before the scheduled date:
Nutrition and weight loss
The human upper arms also have a layer of fatty tissue. Its composition is only partly genetic and also depends on your dietary habits. If you therefore plan to diet to lose weight at the time of your upper arm lift, you should finish this beforehand so that Dr. Christoph Jethon can accurately plan the extent of the procedure and thus the outcome of your upper arm lift.
Medication intake
You should stop taking medications that increase bleeding tendency, such as aspirin or products containing acetylsalicylic acid, about 2 weeks before the planned upper arm lift surgery, as well as any sleeping pills. Exceptions are, of course, medically necessary prescriptions from your physician; please inform Dr. Jethon about these.
Smoking and alcohol
Regular smoking not only increases the risk of circulatory disorders but also impairs wound healing – especially after surgery. Alcohol consumption also has a negative effect. For this reason, Dr. Christoph Jethon advises quitting or significantly reducing both at least 2 weeks before the operation.
Checklist for preparation for the surgery:
- Finish any diet for weight loss before the procedure if applicable
- Avoid medications with blood-thinning effects as well as sleeping pills
- No tobacco or alcohol consumption about 2 weeks beforehand
What is the course of the operation for an upper arm lift?
Before the operation, Dr. Christoph Jethon marks the exact course of the incision lines on the inner side of your upper arms and in the armpit while you lift your arms; this allows him to best plan the extent of the upcoming procedure.
You will then receive a twilight sleep (analgosedation). Depending on the scope of the agreed measures with you, which may also include liposuction, the procedure lasts between 2 and 3 hours.
Dr. Christoph Jethon performs the upper arm lift himself; with his many years of experience in brachioplasty he makes the necessary incisions as short and inconspicuous as possible. He then removes the excess fat tissue including the affected skin areas. He sutures the visible incisions so that the surgical scars become as inconspicuous as possible after the healing process. Finally, you receive a compression dressing that relieves the arm muscles in the following weeks and protects the scars. The upper arm lift procedure at PraxisClinic Jadore is performed on an outpatient basis. In some cases Dr. Christoph Jethon recommends a 1-day stay.
Checklist for the upper arm lift surgery
- General anesthesia
- Duration of surgery: between 2 - 3 hours
- outpatient, possibly 1-day clinic stay recommended
What should I pay attention to after the operation?
The incisions required during the operation on the upper arms can cause pain in the following days. Redness, swelling and bruising may also occur as accompanying effects; these do not pose a risk and subside after a few days. Numbness and tightness sensations in the upper arms are also normal, but unproblematic and temporary consequences of the operative upper arm lift.
When sleeping, avoid side positions that may place strain on the arms; supine position with the arms elevated is therefore best. In the coming 6 weeks you should refrain from any sporting activities that use the arms, as well as from physical exertion that requires lifting or stretching the arms. Sauna visits are also discouraged in the first weeks so as not to impair the healing of the scars and tissue. Ideally, you should not go to work for the next 2 weeks to further reduce unnecessary arm movements.
Checklist for the period immediately after the surgery:
- Avoid sports, physical exertion and wide, fast or high arm movements for about 6 weeks
- No showering in the following 7 days, no sauna visits
- Pause all professional activities for about 2 weeks
Healing process of the upper arm lift and follow-up care
A few days after the procedure the dressings will be changed. Immediately after the operation you receive a compression dressing that supports and relieves the upper arm muscles.
Approximately 2–3 weeks after the operation Dr. Christoph Jethon removes the sutures. You should continue to avoid any upper-body physical strain after suture removal. The scars created by the operation will continue to diminish and fade over time.
Checklist for follow-up care:
- Wear a compression garment for 4 - 6 weeks to support the upper arms
- Removal of sutures after 2 – 3 weeks
- Socially presentable: immediately
- No sports and no heavy lifting for 6 weeks
Complementary treatments for a harmonious body silhouette
In some cases the result of the upper arm lift can be complemented by a thigh lift and by a abdominoplasty and breast lift – because after weight loss these areas should also be corrected.
